Most of what we build at IT Lasso is for other people's businesses — websites, hosting, backups, AI agents. This one is different. This one we built because nobody else was going to.
It's called Wren, and it's a dating community for adults over 50. It launched this month at findwren.com, and we're opening it to Canton and Stark County first.
The problem nobody was solving
The over-50 age group is the fastest-growing segment in online dating. It is also, by a wide margin, the worst served.
Open any of the major apps and it's immediately obvious they were designed for someone in their twenties. The pace, the visual language, the assumption that you want to sort through hundreds of faces as quickly as possible — none of it fits someone who's fifty-eight, has raised a family, and is looking for one person to spend a calm Sunday with.
But the design wasn't the real complaint we kept hearing. The real complaint was simpler and more serious: "How do I know this person is even real?"
That question isn't paranoia. The Federal Trade Commission reported that Americans lost $1.16 billion to romance scams in the first nine months of 2025 alone. And older adults aren't just caught up in it — they're the primary target. Romance scam losses among people 60 and older rose from $389 million in 2024 to $584 million in 2025, a 50 percent jump in a single year.
Someone who's recently divorced or widowed, meeting people online for the first time in decades, is exactly who these schemes are built to find. A dating platform that doesn't take that seriously isn't just incomplete — it's dangerous to the people using it.
So that's where we started.
How Wren works
Every member must be identity-verified before they can message anyone. Not optional, not a badge you can earn later — a requirement. Verification runs through Stripe Identity and checks a government-issued photo ID. Members can build a profile and browse before verifying, but they can't send a single message until they do. We never see or store the documents ourselves; that's handled entirely by Stripe.
Matching is based on a compatibility assessment, not a photo grid. New members answer a questionnaire covering values, temperament, lifestyle, and what they actually want their next chapter to look like. That's what determines who you're shown and in what order. You still decide yes or no on each person — but the people in front of you were chosen for fit, not just for being nearby.
Safety tools are built in, not bolted on. Report and block controls are available on profiles and inside conversations. Reports go to a real person for review, not an automated filter. Photos and shared images are never public — they're served through short-lived, signed links generated only when you view them.
Why Canton first
A dating platform is only as good as the number of real people on it. Launch everywhere at once and you get a thin scatter of members across a hundred cities, none of whom can find anyone.
So we're doing the opposite. Wren is opening in Canton and Stark County first, and we'll expand once there's enough of a community here that a new member actually finds people worth meeting. We're a Canton company. It made sense to start with our own neighbors.
